A network of friends, inspired by gospel values, growing in holiness and building a more just world through personal relationships with and service to people in need.
Our Purpose
The purpose of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is to fulfill the two great commandments – love of God and love of neighbor. We seek to grow spiritually in our conference meetings, through prayer and sharing of our faith. Home visits to those in need in our local community allow us to serve others and grow spiritually by experiencing the presence of Christ in them. Our St. Bartholomew conference serves our local community as an arm of Love Chapel, our local ecumenical food pantry in Columbus.
As Conference members we:
- Make home visits to families suggested by Love Chapel.
- Help these families become more independent through friendship, prayer, coaching, and referral to community services in partnership with Love Chapel.
- Conduct systemic change workshops called Changing Lives Forever in Columbus; this program moves the participants towards a life that is stronger financially, emotionally & spiritually.
- Train and support volunteer mentors through Trusted Mentors to work 1-to-1 with at-risk adult individuals in need of volunteer support and friendship
- Help collect and deliver donated furniture to those in need in collaboration with Love Chapel. In the winter, we also collect coats for Brighter Days residents.

Who We Are Inspired by Gospel values, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, a Catholic lay organization, leads women and men to join together to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to those who are needy and suffering, in the tradition of its founder, Blessed Frederic Ozanam, and patron, St. Vincent de Paul. As a reflection of the whole family of God, members, who are known as Vincentians, are drawn from every ethnic and cultural background, age group, and economic level. Vincentians are united in an international society of charity by their spirit of poverty, humility, and sharing, which is nourished by prayer and reflection, mutually supportive gatherings, and adherence to a basic Rule. Organized locally, Vincentians witness God's love by embracing all works of charity and justice. The Society collaborates with other people of good will in relieving need and addressing its causes, making no distinction in those served, because in them Vincentians see the face of Christ. |
How to Get Involved Associated with our parish, conference membership is open to Christians within our community. Participation may be as members, associate members, and/or benefactors. Guidance and direction come from Father Chris as pastor of our parish and the Society, but the conference is independently funded through members, benefactors and car donations. We invite you to join us at an upcoming conference meeting; we meet the 2nd and 4th Tuesday evening of each month. |
